Awards, Socialism and Proxy war

The Jury for 57th National Film awards chose Resul Pookkutty for Best audiography for his work in Pazhassi Raja.  Resul, kind gentleman that he is, in a magnanimous gesture wrote to the jury that he wanted to share the award with his colleague  Amrit Preetam Dutta, who assisted Resul in the movie Pazhassi Raja.

Now, we implore Mr.Amitabh Bachan to do a similar gesture. Mr.Bachan should share the award with Sasi Kozhikode, who would have won the award if he had worn the latex mask. This way, both Ranjith and the Bachchan clan would be happy.

Now Roshan Andrews has challenged Ranjith’s latex mask assertion. He said that we should just swallow the blue pill and go down the rabbit hole without questioning the jury. He said there is always a controversy and it reflects poorly on Malayali culture.

Really? Why should we Malayalis accept what the jury says? We have a strong case with Paleri Manikyam, Pazhassi Raja and Kutti Sranku. So it is not just an emotional argument. Second, “culture wise”, we have bigger problems to handle, like ranking high in suicide, drinking like world is going to end, bandh and hartal if Saddam Hussein is hanged, a money order economy, Peedanam, Vanibham etc. Compared to that in the cultural pecking order, a protest for a national award ranks right above issues like why Suraj Venjaramoodu was cast in Gulumaal.

So let us protest. Unless of course Mr. Bachchan is willing to share his award with Pazhassi Raja.

KR Mohanan and Shaji N Karun had a public spat on Satellite Television over the National awards. Mohanan commented that Reliance Big Pictures, producers of Kutty Srank bought the award for that movie. Shaji N Karun was enraged at that assertion.

Now look at this. Producer of Paa is AB Corp and Reliance Big Pictures. Producer of Kutty Sranku is Reliance Big Pictures. So who is the real award winner?

We at VC love National Awards, we wish there were more of them.

  1. “Compared to that in the cultural pecking order, a protest for a national award ranks right above issues like why Suraj Venjaramoodu was cast in Gulumaal.” Quite good.

KP Mohanan should crawl back to the rock from under which he came for uttering such ludicrous comments. What would Reliance Big pictures get by buying an award for Kuttysrank? It won’t improve the collections significantly were it is to be released a second time. Bachchan himself may have more influence with the jury than Reliance can have, so I don’t think conspiracy theories, even though frivolous guys are fond of them, don’t have much meat in these two particular aspects. Desperate straws, I guess.

If Reliance Big pictures were interested in buying the award for KS, why didn’t they approach Mohanan and co. to buy the state awards for the movie? The guy should be removed from the Chalachithra academy for raising such unfounded and irresponsible allegations, when he should rather be congratulating the movie’s makers for winning the national awards. Reliance Big would have sought litigation if this guy weren’t utterly inconsequential.

  2. I’ve only seen Pazhassi Raja and Mammotty has done a good job, but it wasn’t something that blew my mind. I’m pretty sure that the role was cake walk for him. Any way now there are three actors with 3 Best Actor awards.

Paa sort of reminds me of David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, where Brad Pitt had to play an old looking child. Though the Oscar went for Sean Penn for Milk. I guess in this case, the National Award jury couldn’t find another actor with a strong performance. Of course I don’t know as I haven’t seen many of the films.

  3. AMITHAB BACHAN NEVER EVER DESERVED A NATIONAL AWARD.
IN PAA PARESH RAWAL DID AN EXELLENT WORK WHICH IS EVEN BETTER THAN SR. BACHAN. THE JURY WAS BRIBED OR THEY ARE TRYING TO PLEASE BACHAN.
