After drawing a blank last year, Malayalam films have fared marginally better in 57th National film awardsBest Actor award, as usual, keeps us amused. This year the best actor award has gone to a latex mask.  On the other hand, some of the awards were slap in the face of 2009 Kerala State Awards jury. 1. Haven’t seen Keshu, and don’t know anything about the film. But an interesting fact: It was also the winner at the state Awards. So why are people who kept mum then like Ranjith and Harikumar raising issues now? Was it like there was only one contestant for the award at state level or something like that?

  2. Kuttysrank – deserved winner (though I haven’t seen other language films). Was the best in Malayalam anyway, by a long way. Kudos.

    No awards for best editing?

Wish there were an award for the best acting performance by the whole cast of a film, as in some overseas film festivals and national awards. Some actors who put in a very good performance get less than 5 min. or so of total screentime, and end up not being considered for anything. Both Paleri and Kuttysrank had excellent overall acting, the latter a little better, and would have been strong contestants for such an award.

  3. Maybe I’m not sophisticated enough to understand awards, but how can Kuttysrank be the best film in India, but not the best film in Malayalam?

  4. More additions:

    Best Supporting Actress-Padmapriya (Pazhassi Raja)
Best Supporting Actor-Manoj K Jayan (Pazhassi Raja)
    Audiography-Pazhassi Raja
    Best Singer (Female)-Chitra (Pazhassi Raja)

on a side note…3 idiots should not have been allowed near any award…what a terrible movie!

  5. Who should’ve won:

    Best Film: Pasanga
    Best Direction: Pandiraj (Pasanga)
Best Actor: Mohanlal (Bhramaram)…Amitabh was a decent choice though…tho Amitabh wore a lot of make-up…he did a lot of voice/posture modulation
Popular Film- Pasanga (it was a commercial film) or…if they want to vary it up….Kerala Cafe (so underrated!)
    Actress- Shweta Menon (Paleri Manikyam)
    Cinematography- Pazhassi Raja
    Music- AR Rahman (Delhi 6)
    Story/Screenplay/Dialogues-Pandiraj (Pasanga)
    Best Feature (Malayalam)-Kerala Cafe
    Best Feature (Hindi)-Paa
    Best Feature (Tamil)-Pasanga
Best Background Music- IR (Pazhassi Raja)
    Best Child Actor-Pasanda
    Editing-Pazhassi Raja
    Choreography-Meghadheera
    Special Effects-Meghadheera
Best Lyrics- ONV for Pazhassi Raja
    Singer (Male)-Mohit Chauhan (Delhi 6)

  6. if a film like Keshu can win the indian Panorama and the Kerala state award without any opposition, suddenly why this hue and cry about the film… was ranjit, hariharan and Majidi sleeping while it was awarded the same that he suddenly got up from slumber to file a case against the such talented and genuine and respecting family of the malayalam film industry
