Review Roundup: T D Dasan Std VI B Review

With AMMA fighting Tilakan, Suresh Gopi fighting AMMA, FEFKA fighting the universe and producers association fighting common sense, the Vishu season looked bleak. When it looked as if there was not choice other than to see Paapi Apacha or Pulliman there was a surprise. The movie did not have any super stars or super writers or super directors. According to the reviewers, it is a good film. We also have to appreciate the producer who read this story and agreed to finance this.

The treatment of this film resembles the Iranian master Majid Majidi’s style with children being the centre of the narrative yet the film is targeted at adults. The fable- like quality works well without making us think about the implausibility of the situation. The credit for this should also be shared by the two kids. It is their spontaneity that ultimately wins the day.The rest of the ensemble cast is just the support system that the two kids require to march forward. In the final analysis; we can say without doubt that T D Dasan Standard VI B, directed by newcomer Mohan Raghavan is miles ahead of the films that are served in the garb of entertainment week after week, and leaves us with a sense of elation. A brillaint effort i

Mohan Raghavan’s debut film matches up in texture, dimension and depth to the wonderfully crafted films of Walter Salles that often transcend boundaries. This is the work of an artist who refuses to see the medium as a mere commodity, and the highly sensitive writing and truly marvelous direction make this film a captivating watch.

  1. Read the review of this movie in Sify movies and rediffmail;both says that the film is really good and calls it a must watch.Haven;t seen the film yet;mainly because it doesn’t have a noon show in Ernakulam(Only 3 shows in Little Shenoys).Anyway happy to see some good experiments in malayalam industry.

  2. its really a fantastic film . i really watched this film 3 times within 5 days .a great work…

  3. I am surprised that people still read Sify reviews. They are easily the worst available on the net. They even called Pappi Appacha “entertaining!”

  4. Sameer,

I personally like Sify better than other websites bc they dont try and show off their English…as someone born and raised in America its very funny to see the writers working for Rediff feign mastery of the english language….they are also very pretentious and think they are serious critics….film criticism in india is mostly garbage….

  5. Filmbuff,

Sorry but I disagree with you. For me a review is worthy ONLY when it speaks the truth. And Sify never does. Not just Sify, but any website that calls Pappi Appacha entertaining is not fit for its job. And Sify has been doing this for a long while; sucking up to superstar and even lesser-star films.

    Language is only secondary.

Raja Sen who writes for Rediff is one of the best writers that we have. That is, if you dont take into consideration B. Rangan.

PS: I dont see how your being born and raised in America makes a difference.

  6. Seriously, how many movies should we make mentioning evil Cola companies exploiting a village and so on. MNCs esp the so called Cola companies are the favorite punching bags of any Malayalam movie director who wants easy applause. The anti-industry slant of our movies must change first for an investment friendly atmosphere to develop in the state. Why should the “businessman” be the villain in every damn movie

Here’s an idea for a villain: How about an ill-informed commie chota neta who brainwashes the public on useful upcoming projects and works at preventing all investment in the state?

  8. The film has left the theaters of Ernakulam within one week of release (the first week had 3 shows with the noon show being Thantonni).I could not watch the film since there was no noon show (since i work in evening shifts) and today i had decided to see the evening show before coming to know about this news.Low budget films without any star cast need support from theaters if the film is good;they should run the film for at least 2 weeks. If even that is not happening then there is no use lamenting about the lack of good films or new film makers. This is really disgusting.

Is it the same case with Ernakulam or has it happened in other places too.

  9. an excellent movie

  10. idnt konow the formalities of d blogs.

if u dont mind please visit my cinema blog

  11. The movie has left Ernakulam only because of the capitalistic and business man mentality of mr. Shenoy. He changed the movie…even though the producer paid another week for the quobe and all…he put his own distribution…english movie…which so far attaracted only 20 peoplke…

  12. well done vadakumcherrys

  13. simply great movie
