  1. Superstars are forced to act in every movie that comes their way because they have to maintain a certain standard in life? Well sorry to know they are that poor.

  2. The so called intellectuals generally like ridiculing his movies, but wasn’t his movies much better than the crass comedy we are suffering these days? His visual aesthetics in shooting song sequences are also unparalleled. My 2 cents.

  3. “Superstars are forced to act in every movie that comes their way because they have to maintain a certain standard in life? Well sorry to know they are that poor.”

The fault with malayalam cinema isn’t the actors we have. We have wonderful actors. What we lack is good filmamkers and script writers.
What Priyan meant is that by not acting in atleast 3 films the so called “superstars” will loose their commercial viability as stars.
If Mohanlal/Mammootty gets 10 crappy scripts, he will have to choose the top 3 among that junk.

  4. “The so called intellectuals generally like ridiculing his movies, but wasn’t his movies much better than the crass comedy we are suffering these days?”

have to agree with you…he is an awesome filmmaker!
I think he has done a better job as a filmmaker in those Hindi re-makes comapred to the original. Films like Thenmavin Kombath and Midhunam have such wonderful mis en scene.

  5. for example:
if Mohanlal acted on only the better scripts that he got in this decade then he would have acted in:
    Company (2002)
    Thanmathra (2005)
    Rasathanthram (2006)
(some consider that to be a good Sathyan Anthikkad film, I thought it was Anthikkad’s weaker films)
Keerthi Chakra (2006)(some ppl call that good too)
    Paradesi (2007)
    Akasha Gopuram (2008)
    Kurukshetra (2008)

If the situation became like this, people would be asking what happened to Lal these days…”is he out?”

  6. forgot to add
    Udayananu Tharam (2005)

  7. he may be inspired and he copies. BUT..hes the BEST comic movie director in malayalam. and one should be proud of him as amalayali. go to north india and see the way they talk highly of priyan. how many of us use dialogues from priyan movies in our daily life – Expressions like “onnugil ooty allengi chatti”, “madam welcome to ootty”, “thamarasherri choram” etc

of course the cynics can say what they like but priyan is now beyond all that and even one of the best directors in hindi now too – remake or no remake.

    Hats off

  8. Udayannnu Thaaram is directed by Rosshan Andrews not Priyadarshan

  9. “Udayannnu Thaaram is directed by Rosshan Andrews not Priyadarshan”

  12. while i watch his movies i can’t control my laughter.yet taking an overview of his entire filmography barring 2 or 3 films has priyadarsan appealed to me as a film maker with a vision?i have to answer -no.iv sasi and priyadarsan churned out movies as a layperson sends emails.priyadarsan’s avowed role model is david lean.i often ask myself what must be driving him to make movie after movie .yet to have no serious content related vision as compared to stylistic fireworks, this baffles me as a cinephile.it just cannot be commercial success alone that motivates him.i still am groping in the dark. g.balachandra menon
