Great review, VC. Does sound like a promising one.
Eagerly waiting for the DVD, since I wonder if the film would have a theatrical release here in the near future..

This is a reasonably good watch... A must watch for serious movie viewers from Kerala.

I also felt two Malayalis (Sajani & T.K) talking to each other in English as odd, even though there were some justifying dialogues in the movie as to why they do that. This was probably a better choice/expediency since there are lots of conversations among these two non-Malayali actors, using their own voice. It would also kill the movie to sub-title all their conversations.

Happy-Go-Lucky,

Why would Sajani have an extra-marital affair when she is married? Was she unhappy with her husband? Or was it just passion? Since the former is not shown, it can be inferred that the reason is the latter. That was too much of a subtlety.

Even Lal's name - Rajat was odd.

I dont think there was any need to show the motivation of Sajini's affair. Their relationship was clearly one of passionate love. And what could be the motivation for that be, other than mutual attraction. Showing that would only add to the length of the movie.

What I found bit odd was the names of the characters - Sajini, Manas? I dont think people in Iddukki area from pre-independence era have such names. Another thing was the trial by burning spoon ritual. I also doubt whether such rituals existed. Wonder if this scene was there in the original Israeli movie. Seemed to me an addition to show the mystic side of India to the western audience.

Story and script were just ok. What made the movie enjoyable was the acting and stunning photography and visuals. I think Kerala Tourism should promote this movie :-)

"I admire "The Terrorist" because it sidesteps the ideology, the question of which side is right and which side is wrong, the political motives, the tactical reasons and simply says: Here is a young woman who has decided to kill and be killed for a cause. Look in her eyes, listen to her voice, watch her as she lives for a few days, and ask yourself what motivates her, and why. Every time I see the film, I feel a great sadness, that a human imagination could be so limited that it sees its own extinction as a victory."
- Roger Ebert

"Just what goes through the mind of a terrorist in the moments before their suicidal mission? Sivan's film may seem slowly paced to many, but his 95 minute film brilliantly pursues his simple but difficult subject as well as any to date. Minimal dialogue, stunning cinematography, and precisely edited sequences seamlessly weave the present and past together in a brilliant study—all the more compelling for the unforgetable and natural performance of the protagonist. The Terrorist demonstrates what a gifted filmmaker Santosh Sivan can be when left to his own devices."
