Our new-gen movie makers desperately need to recognize the standards of the viewing public. The reason why Keralites prefer the physics-challenging antics of Rajanikanth and the laid-down formula movies in Tamil to the Malayalam movies is because the same local movies question the appreciating and understanding qualities of the public. Ever seen Ocean’s Eleven, a pucca commercial venture from the Hollywood? The simplicity and ease in which a very complex plot was filmed must be an eye opener to our movie makers. Director Stephen Soderberg didn’t have to spell out each letter and syllable of the script to the audience to understand what it was all about.[No man's land?: The Celluloid & Behind- PART II]

oceans eleven with a slew of hollywood superstars. with the kind of budget it had, does he really think suc h a movie is possible in malayalam. wrong example

The comparison was not about the cast or budget, but about the quality of the script and the ease in which the plot was depicted on screen. My criticism was about the underestimation of the viewer’s understanding and appreciating ability by our film makers.

Incidentally, the selection list for this year’s Indian Panorama was announced today, and Malayalam tops the list with six entries (in a total of 25). Besides, Pulijanmam gets an automatic entry as it won national award for best film, and the list includes Priyadarshan’s Tamil movie Kancheevaram.

Besides the quality of the movies decreasing every year, would like to also not the quanitity of movies being released also is decreasing. Just take a look at the last three years. This year for the first time no major movie was released during Onam. I think with the rise of Mohanlal and Mammotty , than any prior star before them , people have grown accustom to them as its had been more than two decades now and a unique situation we did not have bfore them. I have personally grown up watching the 2 M’s all these years so we have a naturally tendency to like and favor them. For a newcomer it will be almost impossible to get that much approval without good movies and roles and it will take a while to win over people. Of course the chance though is not available to do that for the younger generation.
