Bhavana has decided not to act in heroine-centric films.
The reason behind such decision is a recent experience of acting in ‘Deyva Naamathiley’, a Malayalam movie, which is a heroine oriented subject. Everyone who saw the film said that Bhavana would get award. The talented actor was on cloud nine but the enthusiasm busted like a bubble with the film did not do well at the box office. No one now talks about the movie.[IndiaGlitz - Bhavana no to heroine subjects]
As far as we know, Daivanamathil was released in 2005 and considering the length of Bhavana’s career, it cannot be called a recent film. Anyhoo, we have two words – Robert Bruce.
It is a no brainer that heroine centric films don’t do well at the box office. Heard of two films called Saira and Kanne Madanguka? Navya Nair got the best actress award for those two movies, but it was seen only by the film festival audience. Meera won the national award for Padam Onnu: Oru Vilapam. Kavya Madhavan is probably the only heroine who has acted in the most heroine centric films like Sheelabathi, Annorikkal, Mizhi Randilum, Gauri Shankaram and Perumazhakalam. Out of this none were box office hits, but gave her an opportunity to step away from playing Dileep’s girl friend.
At the end of her career no one is going to remember movies like Chotta Mumbai and Ontari. While you need to do such movies for financial gain you also have to do serious roles to be considered an actress of substance for which we have a role model.

But our cinema has made her more rich.y not ‘adayalangal’ getting any mention in this site?? is the jurie so partial tht they try to chose some movie which none of spectators like??!!

That’s the problem with Indian cinema and the audience there.
People just look at the actors not the visual medium called cinema.
Actors are overrated in India.

I am so excited to see somebody has replied to my comments after about 3 months..Now we have more scope for discussion about this because one MEGASTAR has joined politics in Andhra, which again says the samething about this. Indian audience as well as media are so partial about stars and they hardly gives credit as well as money to the other techinicians! In kerala I have seen that in all the problems where AMMA involved, people thought justice is on their part and technicians/producers have no right of opinion.! this is so mean..

wow I guess I’m replying pretty late.
But, yea it seems like most people especially those fans of the so-called “superstars” seem to equate quality of a film with box office success.
Though I didn’t find “Daivanamathil” too deep enough. It had all the cliched art-house stuff in it. But that’s not enough. Not much of filmmakers in India are thinking out side of the box. Take a look at Siddiq Barmak’s “Osama” and one might understand what I mean.
Most people in India churn out commercial crap for the sake of money and art-house cliche for just awards. No one does anything to bring out good cinema.
P.S. Bhavana didn’t have any scope of getting an award in that film because obviously her character doesn’t do much. Hence, she doesn’t have much to show off in terms of her acting skills.
