There is a video interview with Meera on webindia123.com where she is asked about her tantrums. She admits that she has wild mood swings, but she feels that it is an asset for an artist. She says that she is expected to forget all her personal problems when she is on the set, that her suppressed emotions are bound to come out at some time, in some form.

She is a very young girl, without family support, trying to stay afloat in an industry known for ill treating actresses. And I think she's doing a damn good job.

[...] It was Meera’s tantrums that got more ink during the filming of this movie and the news of Dileep acting under Blessy’s direction took a back seat. The movie which was supposed to get released during Onam has been moved to Ramzan. Thankfully the movie has almost been completed, else we would have to wait for Dussera, Diwali or Guru Nanak’s birthday for the release. [...]

I would pardon anything from Meera after having watched her out of the world perfomance in Ore kadal. How did the director shyamaprasad managed to get such outstanding performance form two such difficult perfomers while the other directors are huffing and puffing!?

The media wants to create gossips and Meera gets the most blame from so called Madras Mallu media...She is one of the finest actresses we ever got in Malayalam...Other than Manju and Urvashi I didn't see any one else who is so spontaneous and expressive in Malayalam movie industry.Meera has her own issues...Mainly family issues and she is so moody and acts so depressed and isolated some times.Hope Blessy comes up with another great movie for us.

Apparently Mohanlal also does not like to rehearse before shooting begins. In an interview with ManoramaTV (available on YouTube), he says that he likes to be spontaneous and not studied.

Artists everywhere throw tantrums. It's a part of their nature. It is precisely their inability to control their emotions that we love. It is cruel for us to say that when the director says "cut" they should just turn off the switch. We know from our personal lives that emotions can't be "switched off".

In an interview Manoj K. Jayan said that on the set of "Sallapam", Manju Warrier got so into character that she actually fought him hard when he tried to stop her from jumping in front of the train. Then when the director said "cut" she just broke down and cried. She also caused havoc when she ran off with someone during the shoot. And remember Shobha? Is it a coincidence that Manju, Shobha, and Meera are the best actresses that Malayalam cinema has ever produced?

We don't know what these people face emotionally off screen. We pay the price of the ticket, enjoy watching them bare their souls, then turn around and play moral police.

But why single out meera? Every one of these so called 'superstars' throws their own kind of tantrums. dileep, for example is notorious for interfering in the script and downsizing directors. There should be ageneral code of conduct for the 'stars'
