Review Roundup: Bada Dosth

If the following reviews are anything to go by, Suresh Gopi’s retirement plan is on fast track. And for viewers, no surprises no shocks, just plain old wine, in a new package.

rediff.com asks us to leave Bada Dosth alone:

The rigmarole continues for what seems like an eternity, with twists and turns we soon lose count of. If one has to look for interesting things in the film, they will be hard to find. But, on second thought, Sidique’s (also the producer) three different get-ups are quite amusing. It is as if he is a wannabe Kamal Haasan in the makeup department.

As far as histrionics go, the less said the better. Suresh Gopi hams his way through. Sidique, as the Bible-quoting villain who proclaims himself Satan, catches our attention once in a while.

By the end of Bada Dosth, one is left searching for the spark that Suresh Gopi showed in his comeback film, Bharathchandran IPS.

NowRunning.com says:

The Viji Thambi-directed Suresh Gopi-starrer Beda Dosth opens with some amount of applause but ends with quite a bit of booing.

It is a typical Suresh Gopi film that is OK till the interval, but post-interval it bores you to some extent, perhaps on account of moving on predictable lines and ending in a manner as you have seen umpteen number of times in Suresh Gopi films.

The film opens with media persons (one of them being Viji Thambi himself, given his habit of appearing in a cameo a la Alfred Hitchcock) questioning the home minister as to what his government is doing regarding the suppression of the underworld don ‘Bada Dosth’.

Sify says:

Suresh Gopi is back with a gun in Bada Dost a veritable tossed salad of his vintage movies. The film directed by Viji Thambi and produced by actor Siddique is sufficiently entertaining and provides ample compensation for masala thrill seekers.
GV (Siddique) and Dayashankar (Suresh Gopi) are underworld dons who are thick friends. In fact GV lovingly calls Daya- Bada Dost, and he becomes the kingpin of Kochi underworld and a benefactor to the poor and needy! But GV gets jealous about Daya’s hold over the underworld and slowly starts working against him.

On the downside the climax is weak and the story is a rehash of Suresh Gopi’s old films especially Thambi’s own Satyameva Jayathe . Songs by M.Jayachandran are not picturised well.

Neither ghastly nor great, Bada Dost is fast paced and packs in a sting.

  1. At least its said to be better than Photographer

  2. Not worth commenting, since he is a “Super Star” who doesn’t get cany omments from viewers in any of the Sites which offer his movie reviews. Sify get 0 always. It seems nobody bothers about him like a few similar actors in Tamil.

In order to survive he should shed his ego and share stage with others, or the second retirement is on the cards.Only Shaji can do something with this action hereo, whose action is close to the camera only since he just cannot do daredevil action a la Mohan Lal or Prthvi.
God save the public from this action hero.

  3. Suresh Gopiis one of the finest actors in Malayalam – by actors i mean somebody who can emote in serious roles and action oriented roles. Its his misfortune that he has to take up all offers he get.

Leta accept it – if its a cop role, there’s nobody better than Suresh Gopi

As they say Beggars cannot be choosers. And he has a big family to feed.

  4. I would rate Mammotty’s police roles much above Suresh Gopi’s (Avanazhi, Inspector Balram).

  5. Suresh is gonna retire soon…Thats for sure…He doesnt have the ability to do something new good enough to woo the viewers…I watched the trailor of this ‘cinematic disaster’…The dialogues are all crap and the way they are delivered makes it artificial to the core…U feel pity when Suresh utters ‘Maa Salama’…Suresh looks the same in all movies…I pity the people who refer to him as an action hero…He is no better than Siddique in terms of action…Suresh, u should join Kerala police ASAP before age takes its toll on you…:)
