Friendship between man and animal been a staple for the story tellers for ages. World over such themes had been explored in movies many times. Dogs, snakes, tigers, dolphins all sorts of animals been subject for movies. Aanachandham explores a special relationship between an elephant and a man.
Krishna Prasad is crazy about elephants. When he was a ten-year old child his father had taken him to the village temple to attend the festival. An elephant which ran amuck during the festival, knocked the boy over, placed his front foot on the lad’s chest, but then spared him. His love for elephants started on that day. He started studying about elephants and their habits. His regular education suffered upsetting his people at home. He failed in several jobs in which elephants had a role to play. Debts began to mount. It is at this juncture that Gowri and her mother come to stay with him. He gives them shelter.
Usually in Self-Sacrificing-Brother (TM) stories, you have a person who is misunderstood by the family, usually due to his love affair. In this movie, the lover has been replaced by an elephant. In this time of repetitive formulaic stories, one cannot ask for more creativity than this.
The movie written by Sudhish and John has music by Jason J Nair with lyrics by Kaithapram. Besides Jayaram and the elephant, the movie also has Sreenivasan, Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Innocent, Captain Raju, Cochin Haneefa, Salim Kumar, Sai Kumar, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, KPAC Lalitha, and Bindu Panicker
Jayaram might have got lot of things riding on this movie. As it’s a subject close to his heart, we’re sure that he would have enacted his role with lot of passion. His career got a glimmer of hope with Madhuchandralekha and he must be hoping to gain some momentum here.
Jayaraj off late has been behaving weird. Recently he pre-empted Renjith and made Ashwaroodan with the same story. It seems Lohithadas wanted to make a movie with Jayaram and the elephant and now he has pre-empted that too. With Ashwaroodan, the director who gave us Kaliyattam let us down big time and his career and Jayaram’s career have been following the same graph. Honestly we don’t know what to expect out of this movie.
