Uttaram (1989) was a very different kind of murder mystery. There was no police, no laughing villains or sudden twists in the plot. It was an enquiry into the death of a friend’s wife by a journalist and for finding the mystery, the journalist, played by Mammotty charms his way into finding information from others. The screenplay by M.T.Vasudevan Nair was so smooth that we were engrossed till the end. The director of that movie Pavitran passed away in Thrissur on February 26th. He was 56.
He entered the industry by directing `Kabini Nadi Chuvanapol’, produced by his friend P A Backar, in 1976. He later went on to direct his own films like `Aaro Oral’, `Uppu’, `Bali’, `Uttaram’ and `Kuttappan Sakshi’. `Uppu’ bagged him the national award and `Aaro Oral’ won the special mention of the jury. Pavithran also made two documentaries.[Filmmaker Pavithran passes away]
